Just wanted to give you all an update on the progress of Owen and myself.
On Monday, we went to the hematologist. We learned more about the MTHFR gene mutation. A few weeks ago blood work was done
to check my homosystene levels. So I found out that I am Hetrozygous MTHFR mutation. There are 3 scenarios: either one does not have the MTHFR mutation, or one is heterozygous (1 variant gene), or homozygous (2 variant genes). My homocysteine levels were not elevated, which means just taking a vitamin like multi or prenatal will help keep me healthy, giving me the extra vitamin boost my body needs. This gene mutation does have increased risk of cardio vascular problems as I get older, and have a tendency to clot in situations like pregnancy. So...until this clot is gone completely I will be on blood thinners, and may have to be on Coumadin for the rest of my life as a precaution, but I was so thankful as things could always be way worse. Also found out that my blood count levels are great as well. He said they are exactly where they need to be, and that is good because sometimes in pregnancy your levels can be low due to the extra blood in the body.
On Tuesday we went to the OB and had an ultrasound. It was great to see the baby. Owen is growing good and is a little active boy. He is in the 71 percentile for growth and is weighing about 4 pounds, 11 ounces. I have attached a picture, he has chubby little cheeks! The c-section date is set for Feb. 23rd.
On Wednesday we went to the heart/vascular doctor. An ultrasound was done on my leg to see how the clot was doing, and if there are any new clots forming. Thankfully, no new clots and the clot that ranged from my groin area down past my knee is now only around the knee. The clot that is around the knee is pretty well attached to the wall of the vein. I will continue to take the Lovenox injections twice a day until after the baby is born; to which they will switch to Coumadin (pill)! The greenfield filter will be placed Feb. 20th. Its pretty much an outpatient surgery. The filter will be in for about 2 weeks.
This week was a week of doctor appointments for us, and a week of answers from doctorsthat is a clear statement that Prayer works! Thank you for your prayers, and continue to remember Owen and myself over the next few weeks that things will continue to progress as planned, and that all will go well with surgeries. Also for safe travels for family that will be traveling to visit during the exciting time of the arrival of our second miracle from God!
Praising God,
Andrew, Melinda Jacob & Owen :)
